The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
