"Online platforms knows no borders," he said. "There is a certain atmosphere within which stuff flows – at times appearing in harsh versions and sometimes less so – but which is connected."

Professor Hinton said the expansion of the internet-based right wing in the UK lately meant the "possibility to have a larger effect is substantial."
